Quick Quake 2 (!) question

I used to play RA2 on Wireplay, Jolt and Barrysworld servers through 1999-2001. Gaming still hasn't come close to those times since and probably never will. Deus Ex and Baldurs Gate both came out in that period too and those are my favourite single player games of all time. The good old days

ah barrysworld was legend ! was a shame when it folded :(

I am often tempted to reinstall Quake 2 to play Rocket Arena, but there is barely anyone playing it any more.

Perhaps we should start some sort of retro games night?

RA2, AQ2 and CTF were *** shizzle on Q2. Hours and hours of fun.

Even a bit of the oldschool Q2DM1 was amazing. I remember watching the match with John Carmack versus the best online player 1v1 Q2DM1 at the time and the winner won a porsche/ferrari or something insane like that.

A retro games night isn't a bad idea at all.

I may be playing the wrong games now, but, the community spirit doesn't seem to be around with the newer games, odd glimpses of it, but not like the old days.

I entered a duel tournament once, won a match or too then got completely thrashed, loads of spectators on the server too.......:o And we entered a TDM league and got trounced by CoG 119 to 6 or something like that.....:o

Retro night, bring it on.:)

I'd be up for a retro night. Quake was always my game, but Q2 would be good enough.
On the subject of Wireplay, does anyone remember Kali? A sort of online matchup thing that allowed you to play games that only supported LAN connections over the Internet. Well, I say that, but it never actually seemed to work. Good times :)

O-M-F-G!!!

The ultimate game of all time just has to be Q2

Hand up who was secretly gutted when they realised Q3 was tourney based!!!

As much as I love the UnReal and Quake Games, I didnt really want Quake to swap over like Unreal did.

The CD Audio bit I never noticed, but I always mount my CDs as ISO images... That should cure it... I am about to find out cos I have never tried it in Vista64

Bugger... I have just checked and I have 2 Disk images of Quake2

The ISO does not include the AUDIO and thats only 364MB but the full image which is 651MB and does include the Audio is a Nero NRG file.

The irritating bit about that is that I have moved from DAEMON TOOLS to Virtual Clone Drivbe and this rubbish VCD has somehow got corrupted and I tried to go back to DT but it has done something to the setup and I cannot use anythign other than VCD...

Dont ask I dont know WTF happened?

So, basically I cannot mount anything other than VCD compatible Images now... i.e. ISO but not NRG

I loved Quake 2 multiplayer back in the day. the single player was a bit boring but I put a lot of hours into the game all the same.

Hated Quake, but I took to the second game somehow. I remember my graphics card back then was an nvidia riva 128..I remember having to wait a while for nvidia to release a driver that provided opengl support for quake 2 (or even in general?) the switch from software rendering to opengl was awesome :D

It was a nice little card... my first 3d accelerator. Never had a voodoo back then at all.

I remember Kali, used it.. I think that was my early lead into playing decent online

I'd be up for some retro gaming, I did try and get Jdoom working not long ago but could never get it to connect across the network :(
