Hi guys just quick question.. I was hoping to buy something in the members market and the seller had asked for a bank transfer. I checked with my bank as to what is involved given I only ever use my Credit card or PayPal for buying online. They told me it cost's £25  What is the deal here? Surely people are not paying this all the time in the Members market when someone doesn't accept PayPal? The bank were talking about a CHAPS payment by the way when I said bank transfer.

  1. Get seller's bank details (account number and sort code)
  2. Go to a local branch of your particular bank
  3. Fill out "Paying in" form
  4. Enter the seller's details
  5. Done.

Or just ring them and get them to do it over the phone.

Yeah I have online banking but im waiting on a 'code card' to be posted to me that enables me to perform a one off payment into another account so to speak. Not sure if that would be much cheaper or not? I thought PayPal were crooks but Banks are without a doubt the biggest crooks going.

Online transfers are completely free.

If you have online banking then there is a chance you have telephone banking too. Just phone the number, they'll ask you a bunch of questions then ask you what they can do for you. Just tell them you'd like to make a payment then give them the relevant details when they ask.

PayPal is great being honest as it's so handy but I can see why some people in the Members Market don't want to use it due to the charges. I will look into the telephone banking Souljacker. Think im setup to use it but never have done.

The bank are trying to sell you a chaps payment, which is guaranteed same-day and costs a fee. What you actually want is a BACS (I think) which can take up to 3 days and is free.

Go to the bank and ask them for a simple transfer to the other guys account.

.. or a pair of shoes so you can walk to the branch of bank that your seller uses to pay it directly, for immediate and free results.

I was thinking BACS myself but then thought the seller would be hit with charges at his end perhaps? If my code card turns up this weekend I'll email the seller and go ahead with the payment. Even if I do pay a charge im sure it won't be £25. lol !

Some difference then, charging £25 if you do it in the bank. If my code card comes today or tomorrow then I can complete the sale, otherwise I have missed out.

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys.

Or like has been said many times, do it over the counter in cash.
