Quick question about drivers (nvidia vs ati)

I'm just eyeing up a potential upgrade at the moment (still not going to happen for a little while so any new cards that are coming out should be out :p), but I have always gone nvidia because the drivers have caused me less problems. I've always thought of ati's asbeing a bit tacky and generally not working as well.

Question is, is this still true? Who's drivers are better at the moment? Reading these forums there is plenty of moaning about nvidia and the support for the 8 series. Is this all vista related because I can accept they will be behind with vista support or are there still problems in xp (32 bit or 64 bit)?
Is my reason for avoiding ati (poor drivers) now no longer the case and if anything I should be using it to avoid nvidia?

Cheers,
Ric.

Generally speaking I don't think the 8800 drivers are anything special in XP by all accounts. The focus seems to be primarily on Vista over the last few months. I've got some strange problem where with some driver sets my monitor won't display it's native resolution at 75hz. So right now I'm using 100.95 beta.

Can't really comment myself as it's a few years since I used ATI drivers. I've always much preferred Nvidia's as a rule, but the 8800 series seems to be a different kettle of fish.

Nvidia get wiped by ATi in the driver dept. i went from an x1800 XT to the GTS about a month ago, drivers are abysmal, only 3x sets in over 5 months which are crap, going back to ATi me when r600 comes out, ATi suport their cards, Nv dont, all they are interested in is rolling out card after card. :)

I had zero problems with ATi drivers, and id been with them since the 9800pro, dont know whats happened to Nv now, you couldn't fault their drivers at one time, used to be ATi that were crap, all changed now though. :)

I'd always found nVidia drivers to be slightly worse, which is why I tend to gravitate towards ATi when buying a card. Having said that though, there was very little wrong with the drivers for my 7800GS (which is what I had before my X1950) but back when I had a GF2 the nVidia drivers were totally and utterly abysmal. :(

I had nothing but hassle with ATI drivers for my x1900xt-x in my first few months of owning it....This is partly why i don't what an ATI card again...

i have both ati and nvidia cards in my rigs 8800 & 1950 .ati`s support has become very good over the last 18 months. nvidia were also very good up until the 8800 came out now they seem to have lost it.
