quick question about motherboard studs

As soon as you stop thinking of yourself as a nOOb your learning rate slows right down, better to stay humble and keep an open mind about things.

Two main reasons for raising the motherboard off the case using stand-offs is to keep the motherboard from shorting (short-circuting) against the metal case and also to help the board run a tad cooler. In theory you could run a board laying flat on a non-conductive surface but the rear of the board can get super hot and melt/burn whatever its laying on!
