Quick question about no of tuners

I'm reading different things on the net. Can someone tell me if I would need a device with twin tuners to be able to watch on thing and recorde another?

Yes. a device with twin tuners will be able to do just that.
Look at the Hauppauge Nova-T 500 for an example of such a device.

or 2 separate devises (one freeview box )and one built into a tv

So if the TV has freeview built in and i was to purchase a device with just one tuner would I be able to watch one and record another?

How would that work with the aerial coming in?

yep but you would need a device to record on to

so if you had a freeview box(single tuner) with ether hard drive or dvd recorder the Ariel gos into the freeview box/recorder then a second aerial lead comes from that box into to tv (loop through )
