Quick question about RAM prices

I think ram will drop back eventually, maybe not to historic lows, but to £130 or so for 32GB.

It's not like GPUs during mining where people would pay whatever because you could always make it and more back, there's a limit to what most people will pay. We've already seen motherboard sales collapse because people don't want to pay £300 for ram. We are seeing deals where you buy a gpu and get a power supply chucked in, that's not happening unless people aint biting.

Once supply catches up or the arse falls out of AI, price will have to come down if they want to sell anything.

Do you think the arse will fall out of AI? I think it's got a lot more legs, we are just scratching the surface.

Eventually.

Billions is being pumped into it and for what? Where's the end product that can make that back? From what I read a lot of these companies aren't even making profit, tokens for AI use are less than it actually costs to do whatever. For some reason these companies think "we have X users, when it's unlimited uses for Y per month, they will all stay when we raise the price to what it actually costs". At some point investors will want the money back.

Back in the old days (April 2024) I upgraded the desktop to 128GB DDR4 for £350.

I was looking into boosting my laptop last week, and omg, what has happened.
There is no way I am paying £500 for 64GB of SODIMMS.
Instead I'll just use a remote connection to the desktop.

I want to upgrade from 16GB DDR4, to a DDR5 system with 32GB, Prices of nvme hardrives is dear too now!

yeah sitting here waiting to buy two whole systems but not paying stupid ram prices or hd prices... so will just wait. somethings gotta give .

Consoles have the same issue with parts, they'll spiral up in price too.

Maybe Chinese parts go into mass production and come to the rescue and dominate the consumer market
the difference with consoles is they will wear it. why ? because they always lose on consoles production at the start of a new era then make it back later always been the same. the problem for pcs is when the new xbox lands if it is £1000 with 5080 or 4090 like spec and 48gb of ram whos buying a pc ? going to be windows based. play all games on steam. if there is full mouse support as well. thats pc gaming market in trouble for a good few years.

Fair point. I might get 1 then but I like having a PC, Steam and free multiplayer. Apparently next gen is suporting ultra wide, so that's a plus.

Ofcourse you could get 4080 performance equivilent now with Nvidia Streaming, which isn't perfect but will be hard to recognise the difference during many games.

The other question is, when the AI crash hits, does RAM return to normal?

steam is integrated into the xbox. so you just play the xbox with your games on steam same as pc. no difference. if there is full mouse and keyboard support for gaming why would you have a pc ? we will see when they out .

now they got used to the AI or whatever price excuses i wouldnt expect them to drop again tbh.
