I need to pay my landlord my rent and deposit for my new house as soon as possible, however i didn't have enough money in my account at the time, so I've borrowed some money off my parents until my student loan arrives. They gave me a cheque that i paid in yesterday, but it won't clear till probably wednesday. If I give my landlord a cheque for my rent, would he be able to pay it in to the bank on say monday or tuesday (since that cheque will not clear until thursday...), or does it have to be after my cheque has cleared?

His cheque will take the same amount of time to clear as your's.

4 working days. Just date it a couple of days after the date you paid yours in.

Not true. Same bank cheques are quicker to clear than for different banks. If you're with the same bank as your parents and he's with a different one, theirs will be faster.

Just put a date of Wed/Thur, to be on the safe side :)
Post-dating a cheque doesn't affect it. Banks will process a cheque on the day it was paid in, irrespective of the date on it.
