i've just got a xonar to replace my MB sound so i have a question before i put it in the PC.
Should i disable the onboard sound (in bios) and uninstall the old sound drivers first before i do anything? or will the xonar installation automatically do this?

cheers

The Xonar installation won't do anything about your existing onboard sound, so disable the onboard in bios and then just take out the drivers.

Which Xonar did you buy? As I recall, I ran into a slight hitch with the D2X (PCI-E) I bought when installing it on Vista. The installer refused to believe I had the external power connector attached until I found registry entry that fixed it.

Depending on your model/OS and have the same trouble, I can post the link later on.

i recieved my one yestrday. i disabled the onboard in bios and removed the drivers for the onboard via windows, control panel, add remove programes.

then install the card, if you have the pcie connect up the floppy drive power cable to it. Wneh windows boots and finds the new device ,choose cancel from the install options. then run the drivers install.

thanks a lot - i thought as much but its always good to check :)

i got the DX and am running XP so hopefully there won't be any problems.
