Quick Question - Moving Work Units

Is it possible to transfer a work unit from one machine to another?

I assume I have to copy the work folder and make sure it has the right core, but is there anything else I need to do?

I can't see there being any issue with the actual work folder. The client will download a copy of the core if it needs to.

Tho I'm not sure how Standfords servers would react to having the results uploaded from a different Machine ID than it was originally given out to.

well both running under same user name, just got a good unit on and old machine and was wondering if I could "swap" it with a shity unit on a quad...

but in essence you are saying I just need to copy the work folder?

there a guide to moveing standard units around in the sticky - you need to copy over a registry key as well as the WU.

did this with my work server for a few month pre SMP

If you don't copy the registry key, just the WU and its components, it'll still work. Just the no. of completed units will be borked.

Maybe someone can answer this question as well...! what are QMD's? I see them mentioned a lot as some sort of "uber" unit.. and that you need -advmethods and -BigWU flags set.. yet I have never (or not to my knowledge) got a QMD unit

QMDs have been out of circulation for a long time now. They were once the cream of the WU crop but are now paltry in comparison to newfangled GPU ans SMP work units.

Their presence in the Folding sticky is testament to my inability to edit it and keep it up to date.

They were no good on AMDs though. My old Prescott used to love them - I was getting 500PPD from them back in the days when 200PPD was good for an AMD.
