Quick question on Private registration plates.

Hello,

I am wanting to get a private reg what i have had my eye on for a few years.

The plate goes like:
L=letter N=Number

LNN LLL

But i am wondering if it is possible to have the space after the first letter: L NNLLL

Would this be aloud? i Have tried contacting DVLA but it just keeps saying error when i click 'send message' on there site.

If you get a reputable place to make up your plates, then they will only make them to the required specification

Saying that - there are many many people who drive around with illegal plates, and the police and DVLA do absolutely nothing about them :(

Thanks for that mate, im useless at searching.

I was hoping with it being from DVLA they would be able to do it and put it down on there computers ect. Guess it wouldn't hurt giving them a ring later to just make sure.
 
Just purchased the new plate.

They emailed me yesterday. So even though it said error, im guessing it still went through. They basically wrote what andre quoted. I Just thought with them being DVLA they would be able to change the spacing and log it on there computers ect. I now see how it works.

Just got to wait for the V750 to come through now :)

Plate is 'R12 YBO'.... would have preferred it to be 'R 12YBO' but i can't complain as it was a bargain.
 
Tell you all a story mate of my dads, old boy, lives in Devon somewhere anyway nice old Rolls Spirit thing been chugging about for years, i saw him couple of years ago with a very tidy 4 character plate, asked about it, he said yea had it years , it should have an X at the front but i left it off because it dates the car somewhat :D

How has that man never been pulled, see me, i'd last 1 mile and be nicked for it :)

So he basically put a different plate on the car?
 
I drove several thousand miles with the incorrect plate on my car. Admittedly it was the correct plate at one stage, but it was most certainly wrong for a long time.

I wonder what the consequences are?

Apparently there are no police in Devon ;)
 
The penalty is a maximum fine of £1000. It is a non-endorsable offence.

However, depending on the circumstances you could also be charged with perverting the course of justice. This carries a custodial sentence.

60 quid fine i expect, imagine him, he must be nearly 80 hes just a well to do eccentric old boy, what they going to do to him worst ways, tell him stop being daft :)
 
I suspect if you've a reasonable excuse for why you have the wrong plate, you can probably get away with a small fine tbh.

The big thing the police can do is apply to the DVLA to have your plate withdrawn.
I don't know how many times they need to catch you with illegally spaced plates for this to happen.

So your plate is taken away from you - so any money you spent will be lost.
On top of this you'll more than likely be issued with a Q plate - something which can increase your insurance.
 
I saw a mis-spaced plate yesterday - "R10XY P" or something.

The bulletpoints in Andre's post don't actually say anything about spacing though, simply "must be easy to read"?

Well just finished work and come home to find my V750 as come through the post. :)

Still no sign of the new logbook for the ST yet though.

Going to read v750 now and see what crack is on how to change it over.
