Just about to start WoW on Horde, what is the best class to go with if i want to have high defence and semi decent attack. So like a tank character.

Thanks.

Undead rogue for sure.

far more fun then warrior, high DPS and can solo lots of quests.

or

Hunter

how can you suggest a rogue as a tank?

these days a paladin can kinda tank bits here and there, with some luck has some decent damage, and has heals.

shamans, pretty much the same, mail armour with heals and burst damage.

warrior, fury/arms spec is high damage with fairly decent defense.

sounds like a warrior you're after but i'd also consider shaman as a "behind the front lines" melee/magic/all rounder support character, much more flexible than a warrior.

Becuase he said

Thats not the same as saying Tank.

I was going from the stand point of playability & solo leveling.

I did'nt mention palla as he never said anything about TBC.

Rogues don't have a high defence

Don't see the need for the sarcy.

Guesss the term of deffense is been used to show AP, if so thats wrong IMO.
deffense should be dodge and abilities that can be used to deffend, i.e vanish, stun lock, blind , dodge.

can't get better deffensive and offensive abilities for long term survivability.

Guess each to his own, but TBH

No one has mentioned Feral druid, a little bit of everything, great to solo with.

Long term survivability? My warrior in plate can survive much longer than my rogue. And yes it's similar levels of gear (mix of epics and blues plus a few greens). For survivability it's a warrior every time!

I'd advise steering clear of warrior as the others have the ability to heal.

Shaman/paladin/druid are extremely versatile and have all of the things you've said + a little something special about them :)

lol at the whole "rogues are a defensive class" ..... just wait until you do something interesting in wow where rogues get 1hit. then you'll realise where warriors are tanks and not rogues.

Draenei warrior? ;). Yes, I know he said he was going horde.

I think what you want is a warrior, but they're not a great solo class. If you've got the expansion, I'd recommend trying a paladin. If not, go for a shaman, and make it a tauren as you get war stomp (aoe stun) and extra health as your racials.

Undead Shadow priest! Good survivability, good damage and can solo more content that classes such as warriors and rogues can. Not to mention they also look cool.

Paladins are the ultimate class for survivability.

In PVP on the battlegrounds one paladin with the right gear at level 27 can hold 3/4 other enemies in a fight for around 40 seconds or more before death.

DPS is probably the lowest of all classes bar holy spec healing gear priest, but the survivability means you can literally just wait for your opponent to die before you do. The only class I fear in PVP is the holy priest due to them being able to out heal me without me having enough burst DPS to take them down.

Warrior is great fun and always wanted in groups, as are holy priests.

For PVP Shaman and Paladin are great as they can take to many situations and are hard classes to kill.

My suggestion for you however is the druid, go feral spec and even at the old high end you can tank ZG with a feral spec, you can go to dps in cat form or you can play the healer.

All of the main jobs in the game, on one class but *slightly* worse than a dedicated class right at the top end.

The hybrid classes are great fun, allows you to specialise when you find out what you love and has enough adaptability to change from tank to healer at high end in about three days to re-equip.

Great fun PVP due to the survivability of a paladin but the potential for more damage.

Valuable asset to guilds, both PVP and end game raiding and are always welcome in groups.

What realm have you made the character on?

Ok cheers for the answers.

Now, what is the best class to solo level with?

Cheers.

Mage, no doubt about it, an endless supply of food/water, ports to all cities so less time on wing riders, waiting for boats/zeps, and AE'ing at certain spots.
