Hi guys

I need to do some swapping round of processors in a couple of laptops but only have one to hand atm. The one I have has a T6400 processor (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=40479&processor=T6400&spec-codes=SLGJ4) which is listed as socket PGA478 on Intel. However the socket itself says it's PGA479. The other cpu is a P8400 (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?i...B52,SLG8Z,SLGCC,SLGCF,SLGCL,SLGCQ,SLGE2,SLGFC) which is listed as being 'BGA479, PGA478'.

Now I'm hoping that these are just different codes for the same socket as a quick google shows them both as being socket P (here and here). Now I have no idea when it comes to mobile processors so any help is appreciated. Can I simply swap them round?

Cheers

PGA479 only accepts Intel Pentium M and Intel Celeron M

Socket P CPU's do not work in PGA479 motherboards. The P8400 and T6400 you have is Socket P.

I think the correct progression is PGA479 replaced by Socket M replaced by Socket P.

Thanks for your quick response. Just a bit confusing as the socket on the motherboard for this T6400 says 'PGA479' on it!

Oh well, everything else seems to point to them being socket P so I guess I'll find out.

Cheers
