Somewhere, in a field in cheshire... alright!
Hello

I installed an SSD recently and set JMicron Controller Mode to AHCI but have just noticed another option in IDE Config / Configure SATA as which also has AHCI as an option. Now wondering if I've set it correctly?

Am I right in thinking that if I change it now I'll have a problem booting? I read it should be done before installing OS.

u can change it now, but first u have to chcange registry under windows, then in BIOS.If not you will get BSOD.
to do this click on Start->serch->type regedit and press enter, click on it->hotkey local machine->system->current control set->services->msahci->from the left window choose start, right click on it->modify->change value from 3 to 0->press ok
after this go to your bios and change sata mode for AHCI.
Don't get anything wrong, or you will crash your system.

Well I've changed the Configure SATA to AHCI. Some drivers installed when I got to desktop and everything else seems the same.

I've just refreshed the Windows Experience Index and its gone from 7.1 to 7.5for Primary hard disk so looks like its made some difference.

So why would the motherboard be causing it? Would it be worth trying it on a different sata connection?

I've also now got a Hard Drive not showing up in Windows since changing to AHCI.

Your motherboard has more than one SATA controller, the JMicron being one of those controllers, you should have a block of 4-6 ports all the same colour, those will be the Intel Controller ports, connect the drive to one of those.
