Quick Question Regarding Operating Systems

Hi Guys,

My friend isnt a competitor but is thinking of selling built computers for some cash.

He has tried contacting Microsoft with regards to OEM copies of Windows but hasnt had any joy.

Whats the best procedure to get hold of genuine copies?

I would think until the business is clearly established you just buy OEM discs from a retailer like OCUK.

talk to companies that supply it and negotiate bulk discount deals. get an account and an 'account manager' set up

If you rang Microsoft directly to order 100 copies they would simply laugh at you.

Try approx. 30000 copies a year and they might start talking.

You're friend would need to set himself up as a company in some way, then open a reseller trade account with an IT distributor, from there he can buy a multitude of IT products (including OEM MS product) which products he can buy from them.

The range of products he is able to buy will depend on which Distie he starts to trade with (he can try all of them if he wants) For example, not all UK disities can sell OEM MS Software.

Accout opening and registration takes around 48 hours (with my workplace) at least. This will at the very least get him what is called a Cash With Order Account, which means he will not have a credit account and must pay upfront for goods, most common way to do that is via a credit / debit card at time of purchase.
