Quick question regarding xbox connectivity

I have an elite, and an HD TV, connected using the component cable supplied with the xbox. In my xbox settings it says that I need to use an HD AV cable to configure HD settings.

My understanding is that component supports HD, so is the case that there is nothing to configure, or possibly I have it set it up incorrectly? Will getting an HDMI cable improve quality (I doubt my TV supports 1080p)

There's no switch. Maybe they're not component cables.

I thought the elite was meant to come with an hdmi cable also?

Just go buy a £5 HDMI cable and you're sorted.
