quick question, steam coming out of rad?

When doing my coolant today - I left the cap off and let the engine get up to temperature.

once it was up to temperature if i squirted the throttle cable then a little bit of white steam came out the top of the rad.

Stupid newbie question, is this exhaust? (i.e my block is broken) or is it the coolant steaming off cause I didn't have the cap on?

(it doesn't steam with the cap on, of course - its pressurised)

You've probably broken the flange by revving it with the cap off

i was topping the rad up to make sure there were no air leaks :|

Just sounds like a bit of steam escaping because the cap is not on, personally I would not worry about it.

Go take a picture of the mauve striping around the flange so we can see if there's any unevenness.

Agreed.

Coolant gets hot, when it comes into contact with the cold atmosphere it evaporates... hence the steam.

Nothing to worry about.
