Quick question - Why blur numberplate on photo?

You...write the plate down than get your mate to knock it up :p
So if all you're after is the number why on earth would you trek down to the supermarket to try and find a matching car when you could find one online?

You wouldnt 'trek down to the supermarket' you'd simply note it down when passing. The same as you wouldnt spend ages trawling an overclocking forum on the offchance someone might possibly maybe have a photo of the car you want to clone.

Right, so if you're a crook looking to use dodgy plates on a car, you'd just wait until you happened across one the same and make a note of the number rather than trying your luck online. BTW, who said anything about "trawling an overclocking forum"? I'm talking about general searches for pics - it doesn't take much for posts and pics on forums such as this to "leak" out so to speak.
Yea right. If you also own an Audi A3 like yours it isnt hard to find another the same. The place you take your nearly new A3 for servicing is full of them :p
I've seen less than 10 black A3 S-Lines in my life, the vast majority of A3s are Sports. Contrary to what you might think, there's never ever been another one at the dealer when I've been there.

Of course it all depends on how good a "match" you want as there are plenty of black A3s out there if you're not bothered about the details.

Or they could just use Autotrader and get an exact match with plates in seconds.

Look Vert :p

Err, so you're proving my point for me? I thought you said they'd rather go out and find a matching car?

Ok so that's autotrader rather than a forum such as this one but the point is that, if we didn't bother obscuring our plates, there'd be a much higher chance of them turning up pics of our cars in a search - why risk it?

You need to accept the fact that whilst unlikely, it could happen. That way we can all hug.

It's also likely that it COULD happen that someone might recognise where the photo is so we should blur out all scenery just in case :p

i'd say the insurance thing is a valid point - not that i ever do anything dodgey on the roads and the like, but there have been more and more supposid cases of people getting stung by the police/insurnace for what they talk about online.

The plate cloning thing is highly unlikely, but if yours is the one thats blanked out then your not going to be the one that gets nobbled by it.

Its a simple easy step to prevent potential pain down the line so why not do it? does leaving it on display serve any purpose?
