atm I'm using xp, (not 64 bit), but looking a future proof system for when vista gets its glitches sorted out

should I just get the 2 gig PC2-8500 now then, and grab another 2 gig when I upgrade to vista, or get the 4 gig PC2-6400C5 now?

was going to get 4 gig now, as it seemed cheaper than getting 2 now 2 later, even though a quarter of it wouldn't be used until in a 64 bit os, but would 2 gig 8500 in sli be better than 4 gig PC2-6400C5 dual channel which would only be utilizing 3 gig?

I'm not too sure, so I'll just throw this out there.. as 32-bit Vista/XP can only handle 3GB of RAM, does that mean the dual-channel properties of the 3rd accessible and 4th hidden sticks are null and void?

Back on topic, I personally would go for the 2GB PC-8500 RAM. 2GB is plenty for most purposes, and then you are going to upgrade to the 4GB later on.

Obviously the 8.5GBps is faster than the 6.4GBps bandwidth, which I think pulls ahead of the extra 2GB of RAM, considering 2GB is plenty already. (Note that this is per channel, and you'd be actually getting 17.056GBps with the PC-8500, and 12.8GBps with the PC-6400.)
