Hi All

Just a quick question, I am looking at this bundel here
* 1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
* 1 x Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
* 1 x Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AL1065)

and was wondering if there would be any benefit going to 4Gig of RAM?

I am planing on using Vista 64Bit and running photoshop CS3, Crysis and a bit of COD4 (also some DVD burning and so on).

Thanks

PS. Also need a recommendation for a graphics card to go with it for around £200 to £250

4GB RAM is always helpful when Photoshop is being used so how about this:

EDIT: GPU wise an 8800GTS would be dandy.

I'm not sure I'd bother with PC8000 or above here, PC6400 is more than sufficient, even with overclocking but it doesn't cost you that much more at the moment to go for the faster Ram I suppose.

The only point I would note is that Abit motherboards default at 1.8v I believe and the OCZ requires 2.1v so you will almost certainly have to set the voltage manually.

Was looking at this card!

Grrrr I,ve had loads of problems with my RAM in my current RIG (see signiture). I'm not to keen on messing with the voltage settings on my MOBO, well I haven't done in the past (don't ask me why)!

I read that that ram, even though its a 2 stick kit, on a lot of motherboards restricts the other 2 slot because of those healt sink things? and so is not much benefit to having 2x2gig kits

My first thought too, but looking at the price side by side, its only a 6 pound difference.

4GB would surely be fine for the moment though.

Oh yes, 4gig is plenty. I only had 4 gig because of the price. what i'm saying is, there is not really any disadvantage to having a 2gig kit and being able to add another 2 gig later. That particular 4gig kit can make slots 2 and 4 permanently redundant.

With the advice from this thread I'll take the plunge tomorrow with the following. I just want to read up some more on the MOBO and RAM!

I haven't had to mess with the voltages before so want to look into that.
