My friends current spec is
Intel® Core 2 Quad-Core Processor Q6600 (2.40GHz, 8MB, 1066MHz)
3072MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024/2x512]
SINGLE 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT card
640GB Dual Hard Drive Raid 0 Stripe (2x320GB - 7200rpm)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium - English

He gets constant 230-250 in smoke with 640x400 lowest resolution
He gets fluxuating 130-180 in smoke with 1600x1000 highest resoltuon
Are these signs of his gpu or cpu or ram holding him back?

The game is call of duty 4 and hes taking a big hit when theres smoke (this is normal)

Yup, smoke in that game kills slower cards. My GTS 512mb used to struggle....then I upgraded to a 9800GX2 and there were no more problems :D

Yep its the card.

Even with my overclocked cpu the gpu slows down quiet a bit in intense smoke parts of cod4...fine the rest of the time though (at 1900x1200)
