What clockspeed does the Bulldozer need to be at inorder to match IPC of the Sandybridge. Single core IPC

I'm talking standard Sandybridge I5 2500k vs BD equivalent

---

PS This is not a flame thread, A friend is writing an essay for college and although I provided her with a crap load of information, I can't for the life of me remember any specifics with regards to clock speeds. I think it's something like a stock 2500k at 3.3ghz requires a BD to be at 4ghz. But like I say, I forget.

1 core vs 1 core the 2500K is approx 40-50% faster with both at stock speeds. (AMD FX-8150 - 3.6GHz)

In theory (not always possible) you have to clock the Bulldozer to 5 Ghz - 5.4 Ghz to match.

If you over clocked the 2500 to 4.5 Ghz the Bulldozer would need to be at 6.3 Ghz - 6.75 Ghz. :D

Note the bulldozer does have 8 core so this is only relevant to 1 core process.

Thanks for that. Yeah I'm aware more cores make a big difference, as does hyperthreading.

Her assignment is IPS and IPC based, pretty cool sounding assignment. a lot more in depth than anything I touched on when I was in college doing IT.

She's not happy though, as she's not clued up on any of it. to the point she wouldnt have a clue how to put a machine together :D

Ohwell, She will do soon.

I've introduced her to Machine Language, Binary, Instructions, instruction sets, Instructions per Cycle, And instructions Per second.

She's a little overwhelmed, but I think I've clued her up on the best bits to try and grab a distinction.
