Quick question

I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU from an Nvidia 6800 gs to a radeon 5850 as I want to play battlefield 3. Would this bottleneck my CPU which is an Athlon 64 x2 6000+ ??
I got the card for nothing so thought id try battlefield 3 on my ageing pc.
My psu is a new corsair 650 so should be up to it

It should give you an idea, take note however, these tests were done on 64p maps. Your chip is comparable to the C2D and cutting down the player sizes will help a lot, best bet considering it cost you nowt is to play it and find what suits you best. Either way you look at it, that CPU will bottleneck that GPU.

I had a 4400+ and went from a 8800GTS to a 460. Briefly tested Fallout New Vegas on its lowest settings (and highest settings) and the frame rate was the same for both cards so yes there was a bottleneck for me.

keep resolution down and low settings and it should play

That's down to you, i dont know what you consider "playable".
If 35fps is playable to you, then, yes...it will be playable.

Like i said, fire it up and play around.

Cheers for the replys. I,ll fire it up this afternoon to test.
I guess I may be soon looking for a cheap mobo/CPU/mem upgrade package to play it.
