Quick RAID question - getting data of RAID 1 ?

Hi,

I have the Icybox 4220, in RAID 1 with 2 * 1TB HDD's. Just thinking of expanding my storage so want to backup the data first.

Can I literally remove one of the HDD's and plug it into my PC to do a file copy ? As the Icybox is pretty slow ( 10 megs / sec ) compared to directly attached file copy....

Also it is EXT3 format and not NTFS, not sure if that complicates things ?

it uses an Linux file system (as most raid NAS are) unless there is an tool to convert EXT3 to ntfs or an program that alow you to access it, you not be able to read it unless you got Linux box there

thanks ! So I can literally take out one of the HDD's and put it into my PC directly even though it is part of a raid 1 pair ?
