Quick resident evil 1 query

Hi all,

A fast one..

In Resident Evil if you open a door and see a zombie, if you pop a few shots at it, then go back into the door, rinse repeat is this supposed to kill the zombie by taking its life down? :p

Im trying this and I cant seem to kill then, so asking ocukers just incase im not wasting any bullets?

Does a zombies health regenerate if you leave the area?
 
I don't think that works. Think you have to shoot/kick them till the bleed before the don't respawn. I may be thinking of silent hill though. Not played resi in years!
 
They regenerate/respawn, so it would be a wasted effort.

With some memorisation, you don't have to waste your ammo and just run past them if you can.
 
If you damage them an leave the room they will reheal, if you kill them an leave the room then return some of them dont respawn.
