Hey guys, first "legit" looking brief review has been posted with a quick test of the HD3870 vs the 8800GT in both 3DMark06 and Crysis DX10!

http://iax-tech.com/video/3870/38701.htm

It seems to stay pretty close to the GT in both cases and even with AA applied in 3DMark06 however we know ATi does well in 3D Mark anyways! DX10 performance in crysis is poor on both so far as expected with a 2fps difference however they note the NVidia image quality in Crysis is poorer as we all know they cheated with the drivers in their reflections :p

Anyways have a look!

Interesting, but like all others, i'll wait for the "official" sites first thanks.

I don't understand why it's not been tested against a range of cards either - I know i'd be interested in it's performance against the GTX, GTS, and the 2900XT.

Can you not infer that from the results?

We know the performance of the GT against other cards.

Good find mate, interesting :)

I dont trust that site, just does not seem right, besides, my performance in Crysis is miles ahead of there results with the 8800GT or 3870.

On vista yeah? Just curious if its XP or Vista your using mate :)

The results are at least encouraging, for me however the clincher could be the price and availability of course

well i run crysis dx10 @ 1680x1050, medium detail , no AA, runs very smooth...

Avg: 39.525 - Min: 21 - Max: 61

high setting drops to around 19fps

In Vista at 1280x1024 all high, 4xAA I got minimum fps of 9.59, max of 31.50 and average of 20.82.

I'll try 1280x1024 all high, 0xAA.

So 1280x1024 all high 0xAA in Vista I get: min 28.72, max 49.42 and average of 39.43.

Interesting as thats much higher! Makes you wonder about the review really :S Also High or Very High? Im sure its max details in the review

How do you get rid of that stupid shadow stretch? Its only happening in Vista :\.

At 1680x105, all medium I get 40.50fps minimum, 58.90fps average and 84.95 max.

At 1680x1050, all high, 0xAA I get : 20.76minimum, 29.44fps average and 38.10 max.

And tbh medium looks better in some ways compared to high.

I think its just driver issues on Vista mate! There are more pressing ATi issues in the demo like the flashing textures from rocks etc on XP! A few of us have seen red textures on rocks and them disappearing at times lol!

Whats the game like on Very High btw?

Slow on very high :p, need XP for that.

This turned into a 8800GT crysis benchmark thread? :p

Looks promising from ATI/AMD if indeed they can price the card correct, I may regret not waiting a little longer for the HD3870.

Thought so mate ;) Im assuming the benchmark is on Very High in the review!

I just offloaded my Pro as I want to give something else a go! Could be this to see how it all turns out with power, noise etc or it could be that powerhouse which is the 8800gt
