Ok, here's the scenario, two lanes on approach to a roundabout, first exit is straight across, second exit is off to the right.

Is it acceptable to be in the left hand lane on approach when wanting to take the second exit ?

ta muchly

Ok thanks, so we've established it should be the right hand lane if you need to take the second exit.

So what about if you want to take the first exit, ie 12:00. Can you be in the right hand lane on approach ?

Here's a pic of the roundabout concerned. Approaching from the right hand side where the lorry is..

judging from the pic you should be in left lane for the road ahead. Although technically if the sign before that entrance shows the road ahead as beyond 12 o'clock then the right lane is correct. What is th apparent exit at 9 o'clock?

ta...it's blocked off..

Ok so I should fess up here, I'm in the right hand lane needing to take first exit, slightly behind this other fellah in the left hand lane, he decides last minute that he needs the second exit and cuts in front of me without indicating. I slam on the anchors but catch him on the rear quarter.

He says it's my fault for not stopping and he is in his rights to be in the left lane and turning right.

Although as you guys say I'm probably ok in terms of lanes but the fact that I effectively drove into him even though he cut across me and I was lucky not to t-bone him I'm wondering if it'll go knock for knock :(

No witnesses either

Both sides are dual carriageway..

I think whilst I might be technically and morally in the right if I had been driving in more cautious/defensive mode it probably wouldn't have happened.

bye bye 30 years of NCB I suspect.. :(

Just spoke to the guy and he's now claiming the collision took place at the second exit, even though I have to go straight over for the first exit to get to the M25 to go home.

I'm royally screwed - so unfair :(

Cheers

I've got a £500 excess, damage to my car will be less than that so if it goes 50:50 I';ll be lucky to get any of that back plus I lose some of my NCB.

He also said to me am I sure I want to go through insurance for my losses, presumably meaning he would covers his own damages too which to me sounds like he knows he's in the wrong..he did admit he was in the wrong lane

Thanks for all the help guys. Just to update the gentleman involved has seen the error of his ways, I got a quote from the local repair shop and he's paid me privately for the repairs to my car. Result. :)
