I was just about to use a Morrison's Pork Casserole sauce mix but noticed its date is July 2009. It's quite a bit out of date now, but it's been stored correctly.

Would it be alright to use? It's just dry powder that you add water to...

Yeah I've used ones that have been longer than that out of date. They're foil sealed dry powders.

Yup that's it. Sod it, I'll just use it. If I'm not posting this time tomorrow call the cops, please. Tell them I was a good man.

Someone just had to mention a curry, didn't they? Now me want :( I've already prepped the veggies, though :(

Mmm lamb biryani...

I had some out of date powder once too. I had to have my stomach pumped to get all the ***** out.

Goodluck

If its best before (which it will be) it just means that after that date some or all of the ingredients may start to los eflavour or break down and not perform as planned.

If its use by then you will die ;) This is for goods that should be used by a date since they will probably be hazardous to your health after that point.

Some products have a sell by and or a use by. If its only got a sell by treat that as use by, but it may have both a few days apart.

Some people will also ignore use bys, but realistically you need to give it a damn good check if you do so :)

People don't use their common sense with food and all these dates. Some food just never goes off. Tinned food isn't going off any time soon. Dry foods in sealed packets aren't going off. Heavily salted or sugared food isn't going off. Crisps? Not going to go off, ever.

I've just started on a jar of home made jam that my mum made 4 years ago.

You're wrong about crisps. Well out of date crisps are horrible and soft.
