I'm kinda frustrated right now, just custom built a pc and it will not boot. I've gone through the sticky check list but no luck.

I've also tried to short the power connector pin thing on the mobo but all that happens is the led from the power button flashes.

My question is does having extra unused standoff's cause this issue?

Will post specs if needed, typing off a blackberry :(.

Having extra unused stand-offs behind the board can cause problems - as it often shorts parts of the board.

I would strongly recommend you turn off the PSU and re-mount the motherboard with the spare standoffs removed.

May I ask what your full system spec is?

I shall start removing all teh, component so.

Specs:
Asus P8H67 Rev 3 motherboard
Intel i5 2550k 3.4ghz
2 x 4 G.Skill DDR3 -1333 Ram
GTX 560 TI Graphics card
Corsair 120gig Force3 SSD
AKASA 750W AK-PA075AM01 PSU

Do tell if i missed something,

Yeh that would have been what I would have said as if the stand-offs are contacting a metal
part on the board then its going to cause you problems.

That would be the 1st thing I would do
The 2nd thing would be check that you have all the power connectors connected to the
hardware properly and that they are all firmly pushed in.

+1 For the power connections

Make sure that all the power connections are made and connected securely.

The power connections you will want to make are:

- motherboard 24 pin
- motherboard 8 pin
- graphics card 2 x 6 pin
- SSD SATA power connection
- DVD drive SATA power connection
- SATA power connection for any other HDDs connected

Also, make sure the RAM sticks are in slots of the same colour.

Just out of interest, may I ask why you went with a H67 board and an i5 2550K CPU? As the H67 board doesn't allow overclocking and the i5 2550K (unlike the 2500K which is around the same price) doesn't have an onboard graphics core (which is good for testing if you have problems with a graphics card).

Ok, i removed the extra standoff's, same thing... :(

Power led just flashes.. cpu fan spins just slightly.. Do i just give up on the mobo? Those additional standoffs could have damaged it.

It is possible that it did get damaged, yes.

Is it a new board and can you sort out an RMA if it came down to it?

However, before you get to that stage, would you be able to:

- confirm that all the power connections are in and secure
- post up some photos of the system - as it often helps in these situations
- try the RAM sticks one-by-one and in different RAM slots
- check that the monitor connection is connected to the graphics card, not the motherboard
- test it with another PSU.
- test it with another graphics card

- Yup, all power connectors secure
- No decent camera :( my phone's very dark
- No luck trying ram sticks 1 by 1
- Monitor can't be connected to mobo

For the rest, i've called up a repair shop nd they'll test all the components i guess. Going there tomorrow so i've boxed it up and jumped in bed like a sad panda.

P.s if it's mobo failure, can someone recommend a cheap mobo (need for slighty heavy gaming) i can change to that will not hurt my pocket?.

Will update tomorrow after going to the shop.

Ah, that is a shame. Hopefully the repair shop guys will be able to get to the bottom of it (if they test a new board and PSU then they will probably find your issue).

If the issue does turn out to be the PSU, please post here before accepting a replacement PSU from a PC repair shop - as they often stock rather low quality PSUs, which is not good as the PSU is the most important component in your system.

this is the motherboard i would go for.

it is a nice price and supports overclocking. Here is an in-depth review of it.
