As title, I am just wondering whether im out of date in my knowledge :p

I have a netgear router with built in firewall....its all I use..

I have no software firewall installed. (I was told a hardware firewall is better than software)

Is this still the case? or should I have a hardware + software firewall...

if a mod could setup a poll it would be interesting to see!

Thanks!:)

A hardware firewall will suffice. You'd gain no more protection from having a software firewall. You'd just be wasting resources.

But I do think that if you want to have a high level of control over what programs can access the Internet and what they can access etc then it is worth installing a firewall. :)

Hardware vrs software firewall. Totally depends on features and what you want etc. You need to use the correct product for the job in hand, regardless if it is software or hardware.

For example it is useless attempting to get 800 desktop clients to go through a version of Zone Alarm on a desktop PC!

Do you want filtering, multi-site VPN, etc what can it do ........

So it is not just a case of Hardware or Software is better. So a poll is pointless.

It's still a good idea to run a software firewall, to stop anything on your pc from broadcasting, how do you know if your personal details are being leaked?

lol, i think a software firewall is important for the home user. As it will allow control of the programs trying to access the internet
