Hi guys, just fitting some new spark plugs and when i fit the first one the rubber gripper stayed on the spark plug when i removed the spark plug socket. Is this supposed to happen?, or can i glue it into the socket with some super glue?

Cheers mate :), just didn't want to glue it in case there was a reason it did it.

Does this look OK?, according to my Haynes manual they look normal but theres black around the threads and top of th plug next to the tip.

Job done :), was a bit nerve racking screwing the plugs in but they went in OK. It still took a while to start on the first attempt tho, looks like i may have to replace the leads as well. Although the contacts were clean as a whistle.

For any plug work I would really recommend the magnetic spark plug sockets you can buy, the rubber ones are a pain and the sleaves can come off :(

I would have thought id have got a magnetic one with this set being Sealey. A couple of blobs of super glue sorted it out though.

I looked at the pics you sent me for comparison but couldn't tell if there was black around the rim or if it was just shadowed. Looking at them now they look pretty similar :).

I have the sealey magnetic one and its a joy to use when combined with the long locking extension bar in my halfords 150pc socket set, think it was only £5 off the web.

Stopped using the rubber insert ones when the whole socket got stuck on the plug once and I couldnt get it back off since I didn't have a locking extension bar at the time :(

Will you be fitting platinium, copper or iridium plugs? So far i've found the NGK iridium X's to be quite nice, I might get them put in the Z4 when the stock platiniums are up for renewal.

I just got some NGK ones from ebay that were recommended for my car, they were £9.

I didn't have a locking extension bar either so i just wrapped some tape around the bar and socket, it did the job :D.
