Quick spec check before I order?

Ok thanks for wet nursing me along, i'm new at computer building this is only the second one, great to have some ideas and thoughts.
I'm doing lots of reading again....

Not a problem. I'm fairly new to this forum myself but i've found it's full of really helpful peeps. Yes we may all differ in opinion on what path is best but everyone has the OPs best interest at heart.

I think we have made it sound a lil more complicated than it is though ;p

Ok what about this spec...not sure about the memory
Not sure which one of the G Skill would be o.k?

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) £126.89
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 16000C9 (2000MHz) Dual-Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A2000C9) £114.99
Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 microATX Motherboard £66.99

Am I getting there?

Yeah looks good Vik! The 955 cpu is supported wether it's the 95W or 125W version, your more likely to find the 125W to be fair and that looks like it's supported out of the box (f6 looks like the earliest bios and 955 is listed for it). Saves the issues you were having before.

Maybe go for the slightly cheaper XMS3 memory (1600mhz) it's around £87 at Oc. I say this as the board says it supports upto 1800mhz memory and the kit you've chosen is 2000mhz. Yes it may run but i'm not sure if it will run at full spec may step down to 1800. Maybe someone else can clarify?

Hope this helps

the ram will run at the default speed, being rated to run upto speeds of 16000/1800/2000mhz or whatever you decide to buy when overclocking/fiddling with the FSB/DRAM ratios.

if your not going to do any tweaking, just buy some 1333mhz stuff, to save even more money.

Yip, it's slower than the XMS stuff i posted but the CAS timings are lower (better) and it's slightly cheaper so they probably work out about equal.

its not slower if the bios is set to defaults, 1600/1800/2000mhz etc will all be overclocked settings
