Hi,

Thinking of the following:

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, S775, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail

MB:
Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

Memory:
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2

Graphics card:
320MB BFG Technology 8800GTS OC2, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1700, GPU 580MHz, 96Streams, HDTV/2xDual Link DVI

Cooler:
Zalman CNPS8700 LED 110mm Fan Super Flower Heatpipe Cooler

Hdisk:
500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ

PSU:
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

DVD:
CD Rom Lite On LH-20A1P-487C 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE, All Colours, Retail

I've already got an Akasa Eclipse case which this will be going into. Monitor is running 1680x1050. Main uses: Vista / web design / photoshop / video editing, and will be playing Armed Assault (and hopefully Crysis) from time to time.

Any thoughts?

is exactly the same as non OC cards it just has a bios flash of a higher clock
get the cheapest you can find and just overclock or flash it.

OK so I'll drop the power supply to the following:

- 520W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU, ATX, EPS12V, whisper quiet, 5 year warranty

I do want it to be fairly futureproof. I know it's a bit of an unknown, but should it cope with future graphics cards say in a couple of years time if I want to upgrade?

Re: The Abit IP35 Pro - what advantage does this have over the asus I had chosen? The price is very similar.

C64 - do you have a particular card in mind?

Sorry - budget is about the 700-800 mark - but the cheaper the better :)

You can get a E2160 and overclock it straight to 2.66GHz and even further saving you a fair amount otherwise I'd try and fork out for the Q6600.

Only needed if you've got 2 gfx cards and wanting to do SLI, otherwise get a P35 Motherboard.

Not really needed and rather expensive for just 2GB of RAM, for a little bit more you could get 4GB (2x2GB) Kit from OCuK, I suggest getting these , will overclock to speeds of 1000+Mhz.

I wouldnt bother with a pre-overclocked card, you can get exactly the same card for less and money and easily enough OC to any pre-overclocked speeds, Could get this .

I'd personally get the Tuniq Tower or the Noctua for the same amount of money although the Zalman all be fine.

Again personally preference I'd get the Western Digital AAKS 500GB HDD although again the Samsung all be fine.

the Corsair 520W will be fine powering all this, if you chose the 620W because of future proofing then remember their designing things to be more efficent and use less power such as the new Nvidia cards (G92's) which will be using less power than the 8800's are now, same with Penryn.

If your playing at that res and wanting to play Crysis then if you can I'd suggest getting the 8800 GTS 640MB.

I personally think 320mb GFX is fine for upto 20" monitors but people here will argue that point, as you said as cheaply as possible I'd go with my spec.

Latest chipset & (slightly) faster. Also supports 1333MHz FSB & upcoming 45nm processors from word go. Others do but need a BIOS update. Also some mobos have slots for DDR3 RAM giving it a slight future proof edge :)
 
I'd put off upgrading as there were other financial demands that I needed to sort out. As my current PC is on its last legs I'm looking at this again.

A month on, is there anything you guys would suggest would be worth changing from the recommendations above? Newer motherboard / memory? or does the above still seem the best to go for?
