Hey chaps, just a quick spec check. Been saving for a month or two and decided on an upgrade. My current system is:
AMD phenom 2 at 3.4ghz (I wasnt very adventurous)
6gb ddr2 (had to lend 2gb of my original 8 to the parents pc when it broke, now the slot wont work
)
64gb SSD (feeling the pinch but will suffice)
GTX 660 gfx card
So now I am thinking I want to go a bit faster!
This was my plan:
case nzxt phanton £109.98 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-023-NX&groupid=2362&catid=35&subcat=
cpu i5-3570k £161.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-418-IN
mobo Asus P8Z77-V LX2 £67.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-555-AS
ram Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB £35.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-348-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517
cooler Intel Liquid Cooling Solution CPU Cooler £69.18 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-002-IN&tool=3
£445.13
Hmm, that looked a lot neater in excel. Apologies I'm still at work
I hear time and again that people dont need more then 8gb ram for gaming and I'm not a video / photo editor so thats fine.
The case is something I've always wanted but was a touch too austentatious for my current build (and yes I know I just missed an offer on it last week
)
The comments on the cooler seam to say it keeps the cpu a lot cooler then the other all inclusive cpu water systems and it appears to be cheaper.
The cpu itself I keep hearing good thigns about and people are saying its not too hard to OC to 4.5 in a lot of cases, so I'm eager to try that.
As for the motherboard I wasnt too fussed. I'm not sure the OC performance of each of them as I've been out of the loop a while. I'm not planning on strapping another gfx card to this one so the extra pci slot will likely not be used.
My only provisors for it were SATA3 to finally get the full use of my SSD, and I needed 6 or more SATA ports as I currently have 6 hds. Although I do have a PCI-E card sitting somewhere that adds a couple more SATA ports...
Sorry I do tend to rabbit on a bit, but I'm hoping this is all ok. I am getting another pay packet tomorrow and hoping if I order tomorrow in the morning (with OCUK free delivery) that it will arrive Saturday. Can an admin / op confirm this?

it should be a nice step up from your current rig. I'd go for a decent air cooler rather than liquid and save a bit of money but that's just my personal preference.
Then I will fork out the extra!
