just about to order a Q6600 and a BFG 8800GT

i want a motherboard and 4gb ram to go with them but im unsure what is best to oc the q6600

p.s. i dont want to spend a fortune :)

In that case then something based on the P35 chipset such as the Abit IP35 or Gigabyte DS3R would be a good option and G.Skill or Corsair Ram, if picking the IP35 then note to choose Ram which will initially boot at 1.8v. Perhaps this combination.

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £64.99
(£76.36) £64.99
(£76.36)
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) £51.99
(£61.09) £51.99
(£61.09)
Sub Total : £116.98
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £8.25
VAT is being charged at 17.5% VAT : £21.92
Total : £147.15

will that allow me to get a half decent overclock on the q6600?

is that Abit the same as the pro with just less features?

would i get better performance with pc8000+ ram? or does it not make much difference

why 1.8v ?

cheers

Sorry for the delay, was away but yes that would allow you to get a decent overclock although you might need an aftermarket cooler for best results.

The IP35 is more or less a cut down version of the Pro motherboard.

With a Q6600 you have a 1066mhz FSB + 9x multiplier and unless you are taking the CPU beyond 3.6ghz the PC6400 Ram will still be in specification so I don't see the point in spending more.

1.8v is the default that Abit motherboards boot at.
