Well as my S939 system just died on me, time to take the plunge to C2D

I know nada about Intel motherboards so if anyone can spec me a C2D board, nvidia chipset prefered, 2 gig of ram and a C2D CPU.

Easy realy, right guys?

Budget well......my poor credit card, absolute max of £300 but would much prefer to be closer to £200 if possible.

I have a GTX so would like a system that would finaly let it shine, any improvement over a X2 4200 welcome here.

So just need a board, memory and cpu, I have the rest.

Thanks guys.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R £73.58
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC £49.99
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 £52.34

How does the above look people? I know nothing about intel :(

Are you looking to overclock?

EDIT: If so, this would be a good rig

Yes I plan to OC, would you say the Asus is a better board than the Giga P35c DS3R? I am falling out with Asus as I have 2 boards die on me now.

If you wanted a cheaper CPU cooler you could go for the AC Freezer 7 Pro. It's just more than half the price of the Zalman and you might only gain a few degrees if any by using the freezer 7. You can get your E2180 over 3Ghz easily with that cooler as well (I've done it myself :))

Well the gigabyte is in the warehouse queue so it's out of my hands :)

I will be happy with 2.6ghz tbh that should'nt be too much trouble. Now I'm just preying my GTX is fine, im 99% sure my A8N32-SLI board has blew, but with no beep codes coming out it's hard to be sure.

Oh well, we will soon see. Don't fancy playing Crysis on a PCI card :o Thanks for the input billy.

Darn it, forgot about after market coolers, I've only gone and ordered the retail E2180, what can I expect with retail cooling closeratio?

Oh NM, there is no OEM E2180 :D

Well I've heard people getting to 3Ghz with retail cooling, some even further. It all depends on your case airflow really. You'll definitely see a rise in temperature though compared with an aftermarket cooler (maybe 10-20C, it varies lots though), although you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it up to 3 Ghz. Just don't let your core temps get too far over 70C :)
