Right… Sorry but this is going to be perhaps the stupidest question you’ve ever had. But my google skills fail me totally…

Am I right in thinking, as I’ve got Windows 7 64bit, and a motherboard with SATA connector and SATA power connectors I can simply either place an SSD drive (80GB SATA III) in my system and then use this as a boot device for Windows 7, and Windows 7 64bit will just optimise for the SSD, all I’ve got to do is re-install the O/S or replace an existing SATA HDD?

I’m missing something simple here, I don’t need anything other then a board that supports SATA III (which is pretty much most boards since, well ages) lol..

Thanks..

Thank you... Ooo so which one to buy... Think I'll go with the Intel SSD, 80GB will be more then enough for Windows 7 64Bit and applications...

Read somewhere its not a good idea to keep a swap file on a SSD?? Anyhow, long as it boots Windows 7 up quicker and gives Windows a bit of a boost, then money well spent..:p

It's not a bad idea to have the swap file on the SSD but i'm paranoid about it wearing out plus it frees up room for apps and stuff so have it on a HDD, when you get the drive remember to disable hibernation, that will free up a few more GB's.

It doesn't hurt to have the swap on SSD. Just make sure you have enough RAM so that you aren't constantly swapping. I almost never use more than 40% of my memory, so the swap never gets touched really. Hibernation is a good point, haven't needed to worry about the disk space on a 120GB SSD tho.

Just don't expect miracles with the boot times and you may not see a vast improvement over a good HDD. Windows though, and your apps...well, you'll see! ;)
