So you've broken a miniDP to DP adapter not a miniDP to DVI adapter as you said in your first post?
Your active DP to DVI adapter still works?
Not to sound stupid or anything but considering this goes from mini DP to active DP there's no such thing as "passive" or "active" conversion.
Thanks for your info anyway. Looks like my cheapest option is to go for mini dp - dp then dp to dvi rather than mini dp to dvi.
My actual set up is mini DP to DP (not sure if it's active) and then DP to DVI (which was active)
Sorry to change the question, but would a miniDP to HDMI require a special adapter for conversion?
You can go DP or mini DP to to DVI using a passive adapter provided you don't need more than 1920 resolution. The active adapter is needed to go DP / mini DP to dual link DVI for higher resolutions. The reason for that is because Dual link DVI uses more connectors while DP goes to higher resolution by using a faster clock signal.
• A maximum of 2 legacy monitors (VGA, DVI or HDMI) can be enabled simultaneously, provided that each monitor is connected either directly or via a “passive” DisplayPort™ adapter/dongle. “Passive” adapters/dongles will NOT support more than 2 legacy monitors.
• To enable support for more than 2 monitors, “active” DisplayPort™ adapters/dongles are required (or monitors with direct DisplayPort™ connectivity must be used).
No it's right
My statement was to the general conversion from DP to DVI and didn't mention Eyefinity at all.
But as you yourself noted: Your active DP to DVI adapter still works?
