Quick system, large monitor, £900 max!

I’d like to have two windows open side-by-side, hence the large monitor. Alternatively, two 19” monitors, but I can’t find two smaller monitors anywhere near as good as the ProLite for £160. I want a system with fast boot times, and that can handle a few games, e.g. Call of Duty, the usual. ;) I’ll also be using it for general office work, and I like a snappy system! Any comments/suggestions?

Oh, and my budget is £900 excl. delivery (not sure whether I get it free anyway) although I’m willing to listen to cheaper ideas! I need everything.

Hi guys

Both look like awesome specs. Just a few Q's. :)
  1. Do you think I need the better processor for the sort of stuff I am doing? Or is this mainly future-proofing?
  2. Same question, but about the graphics card. Obviously having a 24" monitor means I need a pretty good one. :)

Thanks!

OK, so if I were to go for:
ATi 5770 1024MB
Windows 7 bundle with 500GB HDD

That would save me quite a bit of cash. Could anyone explain the performance differences between:
i5-2500K and the 2400/2300
OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB and Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB

Hopefully I haven't got anything in my system that's overkill compared to the other parts. :) Thanks!

2500K can be overclocked - it's a simple exercise that will significantly boost the CPU. The 2300/2400 can't be overclocked.

The crucial SSD doesn't use a Sandforce controller. The Sandforce controller is very fast when dealing with compressible files but not that great with pre-compressed files. The C300 doesn't care about this and works fast with all files! Both are considered "last generation" now though..

re: Better GPU. The 5770 is a reasonable GPU but will struggle with modern games @ very high detail at 24" resolutions. The 460 is a much better GPU for "only" £50 more.

Thanks for that explanation. :) It seems that every time someone answers a question, I think of more to ask! :(

Say I dropped to a 22" monitor; would I be able to get a lesser graphics card with similar results (smaller resolution obviously)? Or, if I was happy with medium settings, would the other card be okay?
