My 360 RROD'd on the 3rd December and was collected for repair on the 4th, with an expectation of seeing it back after Xmas.

I received a new 360 on the 11th December, so a 7 day turn around!

So I am quite pleased with Microsoft seeing as my old 360 was over 3 years old and had been repaired once way over a year ago.

:)

Mine died middle of October, was back to me within 9 days. Was well gutted as I thought I wouldnt be able to play GTA Ballad of Gay Tony on launch!

I also had a quick turn around by microsoft but not with a 360 console but with my 360 wireless racing wheel instead of repairing my wheel they just sent a new one instead only took about 8 days.

Yes they did it for free but they didnt repair the old one they just give me a new one instead.

They didn't give you a new one, they just simply give you a repaired one and your old one will be fixed and given to the next person and so on, it would be even quicker but I think they still get sent off to Germany

the rrod warranty only covers two years, maybe they re-cover the warrenty from when you get the exchange xbox

you get an extra year on the new or repaired console they send you.

mine took 7 days from dispatch to arrival of a new console and it to had to go to Germany.

was very impressed in the end with it after thinking this whole situation is BS.

In all fairness it should be a process MS are VERY familiar with by now and should be a super speedy service athough 360's of late do seem a LOT more reliable.

My 360 still works well but the only fault it has is with the cd drive.

When it's vertical it won't open much of the time and you have to push the drive a few times very quickly to get it to open, but when it's horizontal it will open but not close, each time you try to close it it keeps opening. Very strange.

Do you think Microsoft would exchange the drive on my 360 if I sent it back? and would they charge me seeing as I've had it since mid/late 2006 without any problems.

That's good to hear, about to send mine in tomorrow.
Wasn't expecting to see it again until after Xmas.

Considering Sony manage to swap straight at the door i wouldn't call it fantastic tbh. I'm not saying it's poor by any means i just don't get why we get the occasional thread going on about how great Microsofts turnaround is when another company manages it in a fraction of the time yet rarely gets a mention.

Could be that we have such poor OS's from microsoft, that we expect the whole service to be poor.

Its amazing that we still buy from a company that is so disliked even hated don't you think?

I see your point, but I also have a PS3 which 1 month after its 1 year warranty expired the fan decied to go full pelt after 20 minutes of use making watching movies unacceptable. And I received no help from Sony. (I fixed this myself by replacing the internal cooling fan with a 19 blade version).

Here I have an Xbox 360 which I have owned since 2006 and was repaired once in February last year and MS still honoured a warranty (over 3 years old and over 1 year since the repair - I think thats how it works).

So I am pleased with the response as it has saved me from spending £200 on a new one. Yes a straight swap out would be great but this is good enough for me.

:)

my mate sent his Xbox 360 Pro (the old 20gb non-HDMI version) with a RROD which was collected by UPS on 7th December.

9am this morning, doorbell rang.

UPS with an Xbox 360. Not sure if they've simply fixed his or whether they have replaced it yet as he'll open it when he gets back in from work later. I reckon they've replaced with a new version....
