Hey guys,

I've been offered a complete new set of tyres for my CLIO 182 Sport.

The options I have is

1. 4 x budget tyres for £100 including fitting

2. 4x branded tyres for £160 including fitting

I'm not sure of the brand but I can find out. The tyres on the car atm are not road legal so I need to get it done. Just paid £130 for car tax too :(

Both sets of tyres have 90% of their life in them.

Part worns, epic. Nice move buying a car that you can't afford to run.

I've been told that it's crazy to buy new tyres if you actually have a good contact. Why buy new if you can buy a part worn tyre that you know have good tred and are from a reputable seller? It's not like I'm going to buy a tyre with no life in it. No need for the condescending sarcastic tone either.

That's why I'm asking. Budget tyres obviously out of the question now. If the branded tyres are any good I'll be considering them. Otherwise I'll have to get some Michelin PE2's.

lol at how judgmental some of you are. I have never claimed to know a lot about cars and I don't. I just enjoy driving and am learning as I go.

I had no idea that putting 4 budget tyres on the car would make such a significant difference. Now I do know and am NOT going to put budget tyres on.

Thanks maccy.

Update - Been offered 2 Bridgestone tyres and 2 Dunlop tyres all with 5-6m tred

£145. Sounds decent enough? If not, I will spend more of course. Sorry but don't have enough time to watch the above video! Have to go out quickly.

Whilst I can understand it frustrates you guys that I made a post suggesting putting budget tyres on a 182, you'll have to step back for two seconds before claiming I don't deserve the car because I can't afford to run it. Not only do I find it offensive, it's as I previously said, judgmental.

I didn't ask because I want to save money, I asked because I genuinely haven't got a clue. I asked because I was hoping all your experience could guide me in the right direction.

You guys are saying that because I know nothing about cars, I don't deserve to own a nice one. Bit harsh IMO

If I was going to have budget tyres fitted on a 182 after all of you guys saying don't, then I agree, the answer is yes, I don't deserve the car. But now I know better, I'm not going to do that.

wow....did anyone bother reading what I put?

Here's the quote just in case.

There's no way budget tyres are going on! I have over a grand coming my way soon so I'm going to have some branded bridgestone part-worn tyres (6mm) put on (£140 full set) so I'm road legal and then get the Michelin as soon as possible.

My 4 michelin tyres are all below the required tread depth and have hardly any meat on them at all. Surely the Bridgestones (just to make me road legal until I get the grand) will be better than what I have on there already.

As some of you might remember the reason why I got the car now is because my Grandad paid £2500 towards the car. (It has cost me almost £5k so far with insurance and road tax) My Grandad is 95 and I obviously wanted to accept his offer before he passed away. I've just graduated, have 2 work experiences and 2 internships under my belt with big firms. I'm confident a graduate job is only a matter of time.

Can't you borrow money from folks until this £1k comes your way and then pay them back? I just think it's a bit of a waste of money buying budget/used tyres, having them on for a short period and then finally buying some proper rubber.

At the age of 21 I absolutely HATE asking for money from the parents. I know if I ask they will say yes though, it's the difference between £570 / £400 and I'll of course get some wear out of the part-worn ones.

It's definitely a good idea though, might just ask.

Sorry i don't buy it, you won't change the part worns till you've run them down to Lordmike levels of tyre wear.

I don't care if you buy it or not.

Why didnt you just buy a Clio 1.2 or something that actually fitted your income?

Because my income will change soon. Even if I don't secure a graduate job soon, there's nothing stopping me from picking up more hours. Anyway, stop asking about my personal life, quite frankly, it's getting on my nerves.

Best I go and buy that M3 then. I mean who knows, perhaps I'll be CEO soon.

Exaggeration much?

Ahhh I see, can't you use the money saved there to put towards a new set? Or was it a case of find the cheapest 182? Not having a pop just interested :)

Where are you based btw?

The former tbh, had to spend £130 on road tax too. Of course, that's no excuse, just another expense. Based in Hertfordshire, Hatfield.

Ace! Thread has served its purpose :) I'm now a lot more knowledgeable about tyres. Sorry if I irritated some people but we've all got to start somewhere. It's hard being motivated when you've been driving a 1.2 fiesta around for 4 years! :)
