As i'm moving house i'm planning on selling almost everything in it. I dont really fancy selling stuff on ebay as there is so much stuff. When you moved house how did you sell all your stuff? cant really do a garage sale/no garden.

I guess i could put up posters advertising a house contents sale and ppl show up - have a look round and see what they want?

My missus took everything to a sunday boot sale. I had no faith what so ever and was more than willing to take the lot of it down the council tip.

She came back with ~£400 so not a bad effort in the end. If you're like me and can't be bothered with all that fuss then try Gumtree/Free ads, or yeah open the house up.

too much stuff (wardrobes, armchairs, books, furniture etc) to take anywhere! so yeah maybe best bet is to do a house contents sale.

one thing i have is the Britannica Encylopedias collection in hardback. (about 40 big books) how much you reckon they go for these days?

edit: i guess the members market is only for computer -ish related items, cant sell other stuff can you?

Me and my girlfriend had this problem when we combined two homes into one. I had a three bedroom house and she had a two bedroom house and we decided to move into the two bed house to save on costs..

My house had mostly built in wardrobes and was largely full of junk, some of it was ok ish, my sofa was really old whereas her sofa was a much better style and nicer looking etc..

We had duplicate plates, forks, pans, tables, chairs man… It was a nightmare. I started to try and shift some of it via ebay. I was renting my last place, but I couldn’t shift the stuff quickly enough. We took what we wanted from both homes, made the two bed house using up what we wanted from each and used the three bed as storage for a while whilst I tried to sell it all on..

It had dining room tables, old TV’s, sky boxes (yeah we had duplicates of everything) but sadly a lot of it was basically junk. You see, whilst we had a spare TV, it was a old 32” CRT, as we used the plasma TV’s in the living room and bedroom, we had a old VCR, an old Dreamcast games console.. I mean lol

I couldn’t shift it quick enough, the rent a month was £750, so I took out a storage container… This was costing me £40 a week, yet still ebay got just £50 for the three seat sofa lol

I ended up having a few car boot sales, it sold hardly any of it to be honest.. In the end, I got fed up with it all and skipped nearly all of it… It was costing me more to keep it and try to sell it on.. the hassle was a nightmare... Flogging stuff is ok if you're got time and space to store it for free.. I didn't have either.

Net result – less hassle, no unwanted junk and saved on storage costs. That’s the problem with moving.. You do realise how much junk you have you don’t really need anymore..

You could try one of the house clearance companies although I dont think the pay very much money for stuff. The best option imho is to open up the house to local people and invite people to come around, offer some wine/beers/Tea/Coffee and people might be more likely to stay and have a good look around while they have a drink!

Just recently cleared out my mother's place, best selling on or freecycling things yourself as a lot of companies/charities are funny about taking 2nd hand furniture. Found that out the hard way when I thought the shop would be desperate for stuff near Xmas.

Also fleabay fees nowadays are stupid, sold about 70 quids worth of gear to get hit with nearly £8 of charges.

I could use a small PC desk if you have one of those to give away. I would also require you to get it to me in London free of charge as well though :D
