Quick Xonar question re EAX

Am I right in thinking it does hardware EAX 2.0 in game mode and if I need higher I click the GX button for say EAX 3.0 like bf2 has???

Yes it can emulate beyond EAX2 using the GX mode switch but some older games don't like it.

When it works it's great but it's not 100% reliable.

EAX 3-5 isn't properly implemented on the Xonar for a number of games. If this is the case you can probably still use EAX 2 though.

EAX 3 doesn't work on a Xonar in Rome: Total War for example. From reading reviews, I gather that Thief: Deadly Shadows and COD2 also have problems. BIOSHOCK only works with later versions of the Xonar drivers. Hopefully future driver revisions will sort out these problems but it's not guarenteed.

good to know but since I mainly play cod4 and arma online I'll just leave gx off.

Saw a review that said COD4 was fine with GX on, giving decent EAX effects. Was just COD2 that had problems.

I notice major fps drops with it on when say an air strike goes down close to me. Turn of GX no drops
