i know the roadworks at the end of the M1 are causing lots of problems so i was thinking about taking the M40 into london (west side) rather than going the M1 and coming anticlockwise around the M25.

is this wise or should i go M1?

it will be around 4-5pm on wednesday when i hit london... :(

it's fulham/hammersmith where i need to go.

Can't comment on M1 v M40, but to get to Fulham/Hammersmith you'll want to be coming in off the M25 on the M4 I would think.

yeah sorry you're right...

M40, M25, M4, A4.

i don't know anything about london as i've never been apart from going to the bike show at the ally pally which is north london just off the M25.

depends on the time of day, M40->A40 will get you to hammersmith, but if its during rush hour, i wouldnt go that way as theres a lot of road works at hammersmith flyover coming off the A40. Other way is A4 through Chiswick etc

if you're coming in from the north and you're not coming during rush hour, consider M1->A406->A4. Going round the M25 adds extra mileage as you're ending up circling round your destination...

In my experience this is the best way to go. Most of the traffic will be going towards the M1 on the north circular too.

i will be coming during rush hour - 4-5pm ish...

M25 will be congested from at least A30 junction all the way to Watford more than likely. M40 will be clear, but the A40 may be congested just before Target Roundabout, hit and miss usually.

A406 will probably be busy at Hangar Lane tracking back to Tesco (Brent), then might be slow moving through Ealing Common.

I'd still probably pick M1->A406->A4 though because I don't think the M25 way will be quicker, you're going round a quarter of a circle to the M4 when you can just go straight in via the M1...

Edit: are you on a bike? If so, def go M1->A406 etc!
