Quickest way to transfer from PC to PS3?

Since I installed a 320GB HDD to my PS3 I've copied all my music and pictures from my PC.
It was a laborious process using my 4GB USB stick, the time it takes for the PS3 to even see the files in the stick is ridiculous, let alone the time it takes to copy them over. I want to try and keep the PS3 synced with the PC as best as I can, but doing so regularly eats up time.
I was wondering if there was a quicker way, or is it just a process that's annoyingly slow whatever method is used?

I think you can copy non drm files across using the ps3media server, not sure if its any faster than using a USB stick but at least you can leave it.

I just copy stuff across the network using a HTTP server, there's loads of free ones out there but red kawa file server is my software of choice. You run the server on your PC, specify which folders to share then connect to the stated IP address using the PS3s internet browser. You can then stream or download files from it to your hearts content. I find it much easier to browse files and generally quicker to transfer them when compared to media servers, it's like just browsing your computers hard drive.

But technically, shouldn't doing it over the network (100mbs) be slower than USB (480mbs)?

Well speed wise yes, but you'll be able to transfer more than 4gb at a time

. I tend to queue up an entire folder filled with episodes of whatever and start it copying before i go out. On reflection the software may have been more useful in the initial copying across segment

I'd be more inclined to do that if there was a function to shutdown after copying, but alas, there isn't. I use Play Tv, so I can't watch telly when I'm transferring files either.
They really need to enable background media transfers, it seems silly that the entire system has to drop everything to concentrate on something so menial.

It doesn't transfer like a media server, hence why i prefer it over them. It transfers from the web browser which then allows you to download in the background. It basically tricks the PS3 into thinking it's downloading something from the web when it is in fact your PC. This would allow you to use playtv while downloading.

Hmmm... I've got it up and running, but it won't let me save any of the files.
The forums suggest that firmware 2.20 borked it.
Are there any other recommended programs that do the same job?

Hmmm strange, still works ok for me. I assume you're pointing at the file you want, pressing triangle and selecting 'save file' or whatever the option is?

Yeah, it just comes up with a screen saying 'Insert storage media at the save destination'.

Ah, sussed it, the file I was trying to transfer had special characters in the name, apparently that's a no-no.
Downloading as we speak!

edit: Hmmm... somewhat inconveniently Play Tv stops the download and it has to start again from scratch once you quit out of it, regardless of how much you'd downloaded already. It's better than fiddling around with slow and pants usb sticks for the bigger files. Still need to find a solution for multiple small files like pics though.

It does though!
Just go to the standby icon in the far left part of the XMB, if you click on it during a download it'll give the option to switch off after the downloads have finished.
