use nlite on your xp install, the file copying process literally flies across then (less files to copy)

you'll get faster boot times, and have a far better xp :)

What is nlite? Never heard of it before.

nLite is a tool that allows you to config your Windows install. You copy the Windows CD/DVD to disk and then run nLite. You point nLite at the Windows folder you copied from CD/DVD. You can then integrate service packs, applications and drivers. So you could integrate SP2, add some patches from RyanVM.net and have the motherboard and graphics drivers installed for you as part of Windows. You can then remove all the crap from Windows such as Messenger, Internet Explorer etc etc to allow for a streamlined copy of Windows that takes less time to install, results in faster boots and faster Windows because of less memory usage.

You can also setup the nLite install to be an unattended. What I mean by that is you can enter the CD key into nLite and specify usernames and screen resolution/refresh rate. When nLite finishes you can have it make an iso file for you. You then burn this to a CD or DVD. Having entered the CD key you can enter the nLite disc and Windows will install automatically because you entered the CD key.

If you want more info about nLite in general or "Can I do this with nLite" either ask here, search the forums for nLite info. nLite is pretty popular here so there is a lot to look up here or alternatively go to the nLite forums and search/ask there.

When you run it it'll take an image of your XP CD to your computer, you can then edit that image and take out all the stuff you don't want & also make it so Windows installs unattended.

You can also apply tweaks & take out programs etc.

--Edit--
Beaten to it :p

nlite is kinda windows software overclocking ;)

its been in development for ages now, i think almost 3 years..

I will give it a try tonight.
You won't regret it. I recently nLited an install. The Windows install was 574.2Mb at the beginning and once I'd removed unwanted crap, integrated the RyanVM patches and drivers etc etc it was 293.26 post-nLite. A reduction of 315.77Mb!!:D

I cannot wait to fix some other nLite stuff on my PC and install this version.
