Hellooo all :D

Since the last quicktime update it seems to take it forever to open large AVI files on my macbook. The fans all come on and it takes about 5mins for a 700mb file to open.

Does anyone know what has happened to quicktime??

Anyhelp with this would be great!

Thanx

Quicktime likes to scan the WHOLE file before opening it.

This could be causing the slowdown.. I recommend using VLC for AVIs and other odd files :)

Perian 1.0 is out now.. worth an update if your still using 0.72

ooo, this sounds like it may help me aswell. I have the same issue trying to open .wmv files in quicktime. Pretty sure that i am using the flip for mac plugin. So this perian is better then?

Perian doesn't support WMV. My only suggestion is to try the latest Flip4Mac if you don't have it already.
Otherwise your going to have to transcode with Quicktime Pro and Flip4Mac Pro I reckon. MEncoder (mentioned above) might do it too.

People who encode into WMV should get a good slap over the wrists. MKV or MP4 are both great (open) standards for encapsulating H264 encoded video.

Ah cheers, just downladed perian and found out for myself, but thanks. Yeah its a pain in the ass these wmv files.
So i would have to have quicktime pro and flip4mac pro? or just say quicktime pro?...

Will have to have a look into this. My prob is that Quicktime Pro is not on my mac, its on my pc. Sure i tried opening the files on there and seeing if i could convert...
