I'm not happy with the fan noise on my Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE. Thinking of swapping out the fans. Nochua F12?

Silly question maybe
But when you set silent mode
Is it actually applying it?

Bit surprised though
THG review has it at 35db with fans at max
Which certainly isn't noisy

Yes they did back off when I applied it. But they're very noisy compared to the case fans.

Not personally tested the cooler
So I can only go by what reviewers say
I know there's people in the forums using it
But can't for the life of me
Think of one to tag so you could ask if theirs is loud
The joys of getting old lol
My memory is shot to ####

Lol. Thanks anyway. Maybe one will see the thread.

I'll perhaps treat myself to those Nochua F12s eventually. If I knew the Thermalright was this loud I'd have gone Nochua from the start.

THG review literally says
"Whisper quiet"
You're definitely the only person in here
I have seen say it's noisy
Though obviously I can't read every single post
Is it an air moving noise?
Or bearings noise?
Possibly a faulty fan?

I've just set up a Peerless Assassin SE and most of the time it's only spinning about 600-700rpm. I've not noticed it making noise in particular. My PSU and GPU when in heavy use are the noise contributors.

What speed are the fans running at?

500-1100 depending on what I'm doing.

I ramped mine up beyond 1000 and it's pretty loud. Not brilliant fans I guess.

Those Noctuas are £20 each. It would turn a £30 heatsink and fan into a £70 heatsink and fan.

Even Noctuas make noise though. In my previous system when I used a Noctua for the HSF I kept it below 1100rpm at all times and lived with the slightly higher temperatures.

I checked on it earlier and even in silent mode the fans were still running at 1100. I've set a custom curve now. Temps are up 2-3 degrees but it's definitely quieter.
