I'm looking to build a new PC. As I tend to keep it running 24/7 my priority is keeping it as quiet as possible.

I have had some quiet noisy hard drives in the past and was wondering whether users have had any experience on quiet ones?

Thanks in advance

J

Hello and welcome to the forum.

What will be the main uses for this "Quiet PC" and what is your budget?
Do you have any components you can reuse, such as, sata hdd/dvd, OS, m&k, monitor or case?

As above, info like that would help us spec you a pc.

As for quiet hard drives, ssd's are silent and super fast.

Seasonic sell fanless power supplies, which are also silent.

Oc UK offer noise dampened cases too. Which will limit noise no end.

Hope these suggestions are helpful.

Hi and thanks,

Main uses are webbrowsing, some C# development and photo processing - I will be running VS2010 and possibly photoshop so need something with a decent size disk and probably 4G or so of memory.

A fanless pc sounds like a nice idea.

Budget wise, upto about £800 - gives me enough to purchase the sofware I need.

Cheers,

J

Will you be gaming at all, if not could save money on the Gpu.

The green 5400rpm hard drives are pretty quiet. I have my Samsung F4 sitting inside a Scythe Quiet Drive, vertically mounted inside a foam cushion. Probably overkill but I value silence too :)

I'd opt for an SSD + 5400rpm drive combo.
