Quietest High End

I'd get the 6950 Frozr. It's a proven quiet cooler (people on here raving about their HD5850 versions) and comes with a free unlock to a 6970.

Plenty of change left over.

Eh? Really???

Not according to techpowerup's review techpowerup 6950 frozr review, it says that it has no bios switch and would not flash to 6970. Reports say the PowerColor PCS++ HD6950 card has the free unlock to a 6970.

Are you going to do a review of the flashed 6950 as I don't think there are many reviews of them flashed, and what were your impressions of it (also in comparison with a 570) if you don't mind me asking?

I will have a review of the GTX570 soon so I'll go in greater depth then. I'll run a few tests on the flashed card and see if it keeps up with a normal HD6970. I already reviewed the HIS HD6950 so I won't have too much time to write another complete review but I may update the original with my findings.

Yes I already checked that out, I noticed a bronze award for the 6950, I was wondering if this would stay the same considering the 'free' extra performance.

The 'free' performance isnt going to be around for long. The second revision of the 6950s arent going to be unlockable, ATI have corrected this mistake.

That's fine. My apologies - I was under the impression ATI would be correcting this but assumed that they hadn't gotten around to actually doing it yet.

In which case the PCS++ would be the one to go for indeed - depending on price.

I know, if anybody wants it they better be quick. I'm sorted anyway, I've already got it:D

Good thing you pointed that out. I was gonna update the article and give it the Silver. At the time, no one knew about the unlock feature.

If amd have definitely corrected this 'mistake' if indeed it was a mistake(as PowerColor are bringing out their own custom PCS++ bios version) it's a very, very bad move from amd if you ask me.
I was seriously considering a 570 this time round. I have no loyalties to green or red, I just get the best performance I'm willing to pay for at upgrade time! My finger was twitching over the buy button at the checkout when news broke about the flash. If the bios flash didn't happen then how much revenue would have went from amd's pockets straight into nvidias? Mine for one and countless other 'happy flashers';)

It might not matter about the 6950 come tommorow anyway if nvidia's 560 is as good as expectations are!

That's what I'm here for 'boss', when are you sending me that AMD Radeon HD 6990 round to help with the review? Just pm me;)

This card looks interesting :-

Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "GOOD Edition"
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-141-GW

Has 2 PWM fans instead of the single factory fitted fan. Can't find any reviews of it yet.

Thats the one i bought. There seem to be a lot of dual fan non ref designs around and i suspect theyre all the same cooler type. I wss thinking of waiting on the phantom but i'll see how this turns out

Its very quiet. I have the side off the case just now balancing fan powers in bios and im very pleased how quiet it is. Hopefully aero isnt enough to kickbit up a gear but the case is pretty well ventilated so i hope.it doesnt
