I wand to add some extra storage to my MCE machine, so want a large drive (500GB probably) but it needs to be as quiet as a mouse.
I can accommodate both PATA or SATA, so it doesn’t matter which interface it uses, but can anyone recommend the best drive for this purpose? Its not for gaming, just for holding content such as movies, music and recorded TV so it isn’t imperative that it’s the worlds fastest HDD. Just quietness.

I know the Samsung drives were regarded as one of the quietest, but I’m not sure if they are still considered the best?

Thanks

I have a couple of WD AAKS 320's running about 18" away from me (Testing a raid setup) and I can say these things are fantastic!

I would say that the Samsungs are the quietest. I have a 250GB Samsung Spinpoint, 500GB Seagate 7200.10 and 320GB WD AAKS and the Samsung is defo the quietest!

Yeah have several WD 3200KS, WD 2500KS and a Samsung 500GB T spinpoint, samsung is the quietest for seek and idle. Clicks are very low in noise, the WD are considerbly louder.
